Casinos are an industry that's going to be negatively hit as much as any other from covid.

People with low seniority or the over saturated areas working in this industry may want to begin searching for alternative employment.

The lone resort casino in the Boston area is furloughing thousands more workers as it eyes reopening in July.

Encore Boston Harbor in Everett will have about 700 workers on staff, but about 3,000 workers and managers will have to be furloughed, Wynn Resorts said Monday.
The casino in late May furloughed about 10% of its full-time staff and stopped paying about 850 part-time workers.

This is a good time for a good old compromise on the unemployment federal add on.

Dems want $600 per week, Republicans want $0. Let's make it $300 per week. Should be low enough that people who want jobs will still pursue them and the lazy scum might not burn the country down collecting some money to sit on their ass.

Plenty of work out there in the casino biz, many workers simply aren’t coming back. There is a shortage in some spots.

If we lock down much longer, the results will be catastrophic, which is the environment cockroaches thrive in

Mohegan Sun & Foxwoods reopened June 1 AGAINST the governors wishes, there was no spike in new cases as predicted

I believe more and more that the virus simply has to run it's course, lockdowns are not doing anything

Every state has to run it's course, herd immunity is real as the results are very consistent from state to state or country to country, regardless of the varying degrees of shutdown

The reason Connecticut saw no surge after reopening AND even when those "reckless" casinos reopened is because the virus had run it's course in Connecticut (and the tri-state area)

Dumbass Basheer Of Kentucky closed all bars and 25% of restaurant capacity tomorrow at 5pm. So god damn stupid. Many of these places won’t make it

https://fox6now.com/2020/07/17/pand...-to-permanently-layoff-large-number-of-staff/

MILWAUKEE — Some 1,600 Potawatomi Hotel & Casino employees have been permanently laid off due to the coronavirus pandemic. The CEO and General Manager of Potawatomi said the decision was not made lightly — and it is one that hurts. The Potawatomi Hotel & Casino is Wisconsin’s most visited destination. Now, more than half of its staff has been told their furlough is permanent.

EAST PEORIA (WEEK) -- Permanent layoffs have hit the Par-A-Dice casino in East Peoria, but it's not clear how many have been let go from the company. The Boyd Gaming Corporation sent a letter to employees at the Par-A-Dice in May, warning of potential layoffs of anywhere from 25 to 60 percent of the staff.
A company spokesperson did not release how many employees were to be laid off, but did provide a statement on the situation.

SCHENECTADY, NY — Rivers Casino & Resort here on Monday announced that it will likely be laying off approximately 1,000 employees who have been on furlough since March.

Thousands of workers employed by New York casinos and racetracks are also on notice. Employees at the four upstate casinos — Tioga Downs, del Lago, Rivers, and Resorts World Catskills — as well as at one of the two downstate racinos, Resorts World New York City — have been told their termination is looming.

More than 4,100 WARN letters have been handed to workers employed in New York’s commercial gaming industry.

Las Vegas in the same boat. They have to give 30 days notice before layoffs or furloughs and quite a few are in that window now. They met the PPP qualifications and, hidden in the motivation, is the ability to break the unions.

DETROIT – With no reopening date in sight, Motor City Casino-Hotel plans to lay off more than 2,500 of its employees at the end of July.
This comes on the heels of 621 permanent layoffs announced at Greektown Casino in Detroit. MGM Grand Detroit announced 2,600 layoffs in May.
Motor City will lay off 2,554 employees at the end of the day on July 31, according to a WARN notice filed with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Activity on Monday, July 27. Some of them could become permanent.
Impacted jobs run the gamut, but the most layoffs are among table dealers: 377. Other layoffs include managers, engineers, servers, bartenders, chefs, security personnel, cashiers and administrators, the notice said.
In June, casino management was hoping to reopen in early July, but that didn’t come to pass, and casinos still have no opening date as coronavirus cases surge in Michigan.

Well i canceled my Vegas September trip due to the spikes of the virus.I have not missed a Vegas trip in like forever, and it feels really odd.So the best i can come up with is,i'm going to MT AIRY for 4 days to at least feel like i'm somewhere else,.lol,..MT AIRY has a much better sportsbook than Mohegan Sun(pocono)as its a lot bigger and better, not top notch ,but better.I'll be there for the open of the NFL season which is good enough for me.

So my sister lives up in that area and i'm going to stay there for 2 days, and 2 days at the casino.I never stayed there so just trying to get a repoure with them in case i ask to stay again. So i emailed a host and i explained the whole ordeal to him as i don't pay for nothing in Vegas, but i said to him,i know this is not vegas, thats what they all say,so anyway he asked for my D.O.B.,and places i stay at and most frequent i go to.I don't know how they are for giving rooms out,but i should hear back from him soon, its been 2 days going on 3 today

I realize that many believe that all will be well again soon in Las Vegas.

However, the truth reveals a different narrative.

MGM Resorts To Fire 18,000 Employees, A Quarter Of Its Workforce

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/mgm-resorts-fire-18000-employees-quarter-its-workforce

MGM's Empire City in New York state and Park MGM in Las Vegas remain closed, as casinos in Las Vegas are all operating at limited capacity with large declines in tourism and travel to the Las Vegas Strip. In June, Nevada casinos were allowed to reopen at half occupancy and MGM Resorts phased in casino reopenings over the following weeks. Two of MGM’s 13 Strip resorts, Park MGM and the NoMad, are still closed, and MGM’s Mirage casino reopened this week. MGM Resorts reported a 91% drop in revenue for the three-month period that ended June 30, a similar decrease to other operators on the Strip.

It will be a minimum of two years for Vegas to come back. Part of that is the reliance on the airlines and we know the trouble they are currently trying to manage. One of the Stations casinos just voted out the union. There is no doubt the majors see this as an opportunity to break the unions and part of that will be these huge layoffs. On the other hand, the Mirage just opened in LV yesterday. As soon as the NFR cancels, you will be able to get a room in LV in Nov/Dec for less than the cost of the resort fee.

I don't see Vegas ever coming back & being like it use to be as far as business & making money goes.........I can see several casinos closing down within the next two years........imo, if you're waiting for the normal Vegas to return, it won't imo.
